Rise and Prime

First things first, I must admit that up until recently I’ve always been a bit of a primer snob, I assumed (albeit wrongly) that I needed to spend at least £30 to get something decent that wouldn’t dry my face and would keep my makeup in place longer. For the last few years, I’ve been on the Younique face primer which has always worked extremely well for me and I really have no complaints. But now is the time to spread my wings and play the field with some new brands, I really wanted to find myself a drugstore brand that would work just the same. I thought I might have to play around quite a bit but luckily I struck gold on my first try.

img_6906Personally, I haven’t used the e.l.f  brand before, I think I had just thrown it in my cheap and not worth it pile for some reason, and when you’re faced with row upon row of brands all promising wonderful and amazing results you tend to just stick with something familiar. But that’s not what my new venture is about, I want to find the best products for me and you no matter what the price or brand. So as I was scouring through all the different primers my local Superdrug had to offer my eyes were drawn to the many variations of primer e.l.f had to offer. I prefer a brand that has more than one primer for specific skin types so thought firstly I would give their hydrating primer a little try.img_6907 Been as they were only £7.50 each if I didn’t get on with it there wasn’t much to lose. Because of my dry skin, I tend to need a fair amount to do the job right so I may have got a little carried away with quite a few pumps. Unfortunately what I didn’t know is a little goes a long way this product. Literally, one little pump is all you need and it completely covered my entire face and left it feeling extremely moisturised and hydrated. I would only recommend this particular primer to anyone that has really dry skin as I feel any other skin type could be left feeling greasy. I found that the staying power was very good as well, my makeup was still in place after a full day at work and a full day of chasing Tilly around.  Another big bonus for this product is that it’s vegan-friendly and cruelty-free.

This was a product I really wanted to share with you so I thought I best go back and treat myself to a few more to test and see if they were all as good. Been as there was a 3 for 2 offer on in Superdrug I thought why not go a little mad so now I will never run out of primer again. I now have to my e.l.f collection a poreless primer, illuminating face primer and a tone adjusting primer.

This beauty is very good for helping disguise large pores and fine lines. Didn’t get rid of them but made hiding them with foundation and concealer a lot easier. Again you only need the tiniest amounts on this primer but it did leave my skin feeling like silk.

I like to mix a little of this in with my hydrating primer for an easy every day dewy effect. I think if used on its own it could look a little just like glitter but a little mixed in creates a lovely subtle glow.

e.l.f do a couple of tone adjusting primers but I went for the green as that helps to cover redness, and unfortunately, I get that all over my cheeks and nose. This product is nice and lightweight but on its own doesn’t cover up my redness but makes it a lot easier for me to cover with foundation, and use a lot less product to do so.

I’ve been wearing these primers for nearly two weeks now I’ve not had any breakouts and my skin is in exactly the same condition it was before, my skin can be quite sensitive and I’ve had no reactions to using any of these primers so I can only highly recommend this product. If none of these floats your boat then you also have the choice of;

  • Blemish control face primer (infused with Salicylic Acid, Vitamin E, and Tea Tree, helps control breakouts and blemishes.)
  • Soothing primer (infused with soothing Aloe, Vitamin E, and Vitamin B5)
  • Mineral infused face primer ( Developed to combat against excess oil, flaky dryness, enlarged pores, and fine lines.)
  • Brightening lavender face primer (perfect for neutralizing uneven skin tones and brightening dull or yellow skin tones.)

Overall I’m really happy with this product and if I ever run out will definitely purchase again, and with that price point, it’s definitely worth it. Also with plenty of choices to fulfil every need, you can’t go far wrong. The only downside I’ve come across is the bottle is smaller than it appears to be, I don’t think should really be a problem as you need so little of the product each use it will last a while and the majority of these primers can be purchased in a larger version if you want a bigger product.

Have you tried one of these before? What do you think?

I can’t wait to go treat myself to some more e.l.f goodies now.

Thank you for reading
