Fenty Beauty Haul

Hello guys hope you’re all having a fabulous week. I’ve been busy training for the run for life and trying to get myself back into a somewhat physically healthy state. Party because I’m hoping summer will arrive in full force soon and also because I want to eat a lot more Chinese food without feeling guilty. Other than that life is fairly normal in the Lynes household just plenty of work, fun and as much rest as our little sleep goblin will allow us.

Fenty Beauty finally launched in boots (thank the lord) and I’ve been dying to try some of these products for over a year and a half now. They are on the higher end of the price scale so I wasn’t sure how many of the products I could try but fortunately enough my birthday also fell in the same month and my lovely sister treated to me some so I could get a really good feel for the Fenty Beauty brand and have a good play around with some products.

Here’s a little bit of information on the Fenty Beauty brand: ” Fenty beauty was created with a vision. For creater and founder Rihanna, it was essential that women everywhere would be included. After recognising a void in the industry, Rihanna focused on a range of traditionally hard to match skin tones, developing formulas that work for all skin types, and pinpointing universal shades. Her aim above all is to inspire: Makeup is there for you to have fun with. It should never feel like pressure. It should never feel like a uniform. Feel free to take chances, and take risks, and dare to do something different, or new.”

I’ve never tried anything from Fenty before and they certainly have some amazing and eye-catching products but I wanted to start with some staple everyday base items first to get a good feel to what suits me, then be a little bit braver and play about with some colours after. So, up for review today we have:

  • Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer
  • Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation – colour 120
  • Full-bodied Foundation Brush
  • Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer -colour 120
  • Invisimatte Blotting Powder

Pro Filt’r Instant Re-touch Primer:

Claims: A shine stopping, pore-diffusing makeup primer that smooths the way for better foundation application and longer wear with an instant re-touch effect. This oil-free face primer smooths away the look of pores, visibly evens skin tone and texture, and instantly absorbs shine without feeling dry and chalky. For smoother foundation application and longer makeup wear. Unlike a basic mattifying primer, Pro Filt’r makeup primer has a cushiony texture that mattifies skin with the lightest possible feel. It has a universal invisipink formula that creates a filter like blurring effect and melts into all skin tones without a trace.

Rihanna’s Inspo: “I wanted this primer to feel soft and moisturising at the same time, as well as do the job of keeping makeup on.”

How To: One pump is all it takes for an instant retouch effect. Start at the center of your face and blend outwards.

Top Tip: If you have dry skin, apply primer to just the areas of your face that tend to get oily (think t-zone and around the mouth).

My Thoughts: First things first I’m a huge primer fan, it’s something I religiously use every day and as long as I get the right formula it enhances my makeup and helps my confidence. It’s such an important step in anyones beauty routine that you shouldn’t miss out.

My first view on the primer from what I’ve read and seen made me worry a little as I thought it was leaning more toward those with more of an oily skin type. Matte is mentioned a lot and normally when I hear that word I run for the hills. I suffer from really dry skin so matte for me normally means dry patches and makeup looking flaky, which I’m sure you’ll all agree is no ones desired effect. But I needed to give this primer a try and I’m really pleased I did. The formulas fantastic and even though it left my skin feeling matte, it didn’t dry me out at all. It’s nice and creamy and left my skin feeling soft. I haven’t tried it alongside any other foundations than the Fenty Pro Filt’r Foundation but from what I’ve tried so far it really does help with smooth and even makeup application. I’m very impressed with the longevity of my makeup when I’m wearing this and can do a full workout session with my makeup still in place. It doesn’t clog my pores at all and my skin is left in very good condition. The packaging is beautiful and I love the glass bottle, great if you’re trying to stay away from plastic, the only downside I fear is that there is no way to screw the lid off so I just hope the pump goes all the way to the bottom so I can get every last drop out. It’s on the higher end of the price scale at £24 but it’s completely worth it for the quality, I’ll definitely treat myself again.

Full Bodied Foundation Brush:

Claims: A medium density foundation brush designed to give Prop Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation seamless air-touched coverage. The makeup brush designed to make skin look like skin. It gives you the instant coverage of a flat paddle brush plus the fast, seamless blending of an airbrush. Its unique paw shape gives just the right density, with more than 140,00 ultra-fine synthetic bristles for a softer touch and better blending. What’s more, the dense bristles mean that more foundation ends up on your face, and not in the brush.

Rihanna’s Inspo: Foundation was one of Rihanna’s first makeup loves, so it was important for her to have the perfect tool to pair with her Pro Filt’r Foundation.

How To: For the ultimate coverage, press brush into skin, roll off, and repeat- Rihanna’s go to method.

My Thoughts: I hate to say it but this brush was pretty much a complete flop for me. I’m normally a sponge girl normally when it comes to makeup but I was really disappointed with how this brush blends. Now, it’s not the worst brush in the world but when you’re paying £26 for a brush I expect the absolute and for it to transform me into a Fenty goddess. Unfortunately no matter how quick or thoroughly I blended the foundation just wouldn’t sit right. It left my face looking patchy, dry and sad. I switched back to my normal beauty blender and my whole face looked a lot more even and no dry patches popping through. Because the foundation is matte it does dry rather quickly, but no matter how fast I worked with the brush the end result was rather lacking. I’d read so many great reviews on the brush so to have it react like this with me was a surprise, perhaps the brush is more suited to oily skin but for the price (which in my opinion is massively overpriced) I’ll stick to my beauty blender next time. This was, however, the only product that didn’t do what it said on the tin for me, it has made me more cautious of trying Fenty brushes in the future.

Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation:

Claims: A soft, matte long wear foundation with buildable, medium to full coverage, available in a range of 50 shades. Gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. The oil-free matte foundation is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are, it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this light-as-air foundation is undetectable on skin – so you always look like you.

Top Tips:

  • Always shake foundation before use to activate.
  • Pro Filt’rs pigments need a moment to dry down to their truest colour, so when you’re testing shades let the formula dry completely on you skin to find the perfect match.
  • Stuck between two shades? Go for the lighter one.
  • If you suffer with dry skin like myself, before you apply foundation try using a daily exfoliator like Nip + Fabs glycolic scrub to keep on top of dry patches.

Rihanna’s Inspo: You asked, Rihanna answered – carefully curating shades for women who still haven’t been served. She personally found women with hard-to-match skin tones and flew them in to create shades for them. ” Foundation is one of those areas in the beauty industry that has a big void for women at extreme ends of the shade spectrum. There’s middle ground that’s covered really well. But then if you’re very pale or if you’re very dark, there aren’t a lot of options. And so, I wanted to make sure that women of all skin tones were covered so they could be included in what I created”- Rihanna.

How To:

  • Be sure to moisturise skin before foundation application, especically if your skin is dry. After moisturising prep skin with Pro Filt’r primer for best results.
  • Shake before use.
  • Apply 1-2 pumps on the back of your hand and using your desired tool dab the product onto the center of your face and blend outwards.

My Thoughts: This is the bad boy I’ve been waiting months to try. I love a new foundation and since Rihanna released this formula I needed to try it. I didn’t dare order online as even with the online shade finder I wanted to wait till it came to a UK store to test. Also with it being a matte formula, I needed to make sure my dry skin would cope. Since being colour matched perfectly in the shop I have tried the online shade finder and it recommended 4 shade completely differently to what I’m using. So unless you already know your shade I’d head into a store for a colour match. While I’m on the subject the shade range is absolutely incredible at the moment there are 50 different shades that cover the complete spectrum. The best match for me is 120 (for fair skin with neutral undertones).

This is by far one of the truest colour matches I’ve had with my skin and trust me I’ve had some shockers! It covers all my redness perfectly and does pretty well hiding the humongous black bags under my eyes. It really does make my skin look flawless and gives it a porcelain finish. It does dry very quickly so don’t hang around with the blending. When I use my sponge I don’t have any issue at all and everything covers very easily.

The formula itself is extremely breathable and light on, you get full coverage without feeling like your wearing a mask. You definitely need to set the foundation to keep it in place, but when you do it doesn’t budge for me.

Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer:

Claims: A creamy, long-wear, creaseproof liquid concealer that delivers light-as-air medium to full coverage in 50 easy to shop matte shades. Whether you’re hiding bags or blemishes this soft matte concealer easily builds to full coverage, instantly brightening under eyes, concealing blemishes and dark spots and reducing redness. Photo ready coverage that lasts all day without creasing or settling into fine lines or pores. This sweat-resistant formula will work on your skin no matter where you go.

Rihanna’s Inspo: “Everybody knows concealers for hiding bags, dark circles, hangovers and bad decisions!”- Rihanna

How To: Apply directly under eyes or over blemishes and blend with a brush or sponge. Start with a very thin layer and build as needed – a little goes a long way.

Top Tip: Whent it comes times to pick your Fenty concealer shade you don’t need to head a few shades lighter that your Fenty foundation shade, as every concealer shade is made to compliment the corresponding foundation shade. So I’m a 120 in both and the concealer is lighter than my foundation, so it beautifully lightens up any dark areas but still blends in well for when Im covering up blemishes.

My Thoughts: First things first…. I love this concealer! One of the best concealers I’ve used by a mile. The same incredible shade range as the foundation. The shade is perfect for me and I love how well the foundation and concealer match up so well together. It’s got the perfect undertone for my skin and helps me look as fresh as a daisy. A little really does go a long way though, I only need 2 little dots under each eye to cover the entire area. It’s an extremely creamy formula so it blends out really easily, and doesn’t settle in any fine lines. It’s extremely long-lasting as it copes very well when I exercise. This has definitely become a staple in my makeup bag and one that I’ll be re-stocking when it’s gone. I’ve had a few shocking hormonal breakouts recently but these didn’t defeat the concealer. The days of layering up to hide my shame has long gone. I don’t actually have any negatives for this concealer. It’s priced at £19 which I would be more than happy to pay again for a product of this quality. There’s a massive difference between this and other much cheaper drug store concealers, but I’d still choose Fenty any day.

Invismatte Blotting Powder:

Claims: This universal blotting powder contains an exclusive pore-diffusing complex that absorbs shine and gives you a natural matte refresh for in instantly filtered look – so you’re always ready for a shine-free snap. Invisimatte’s translucent powder is completely traceless against all skin tones and won’t cake, clog pores, creep into fine lines or disturb makeup. It extends the wear of your foundation and comes in a magnetised compact that attaches to the portable touch up brush, so you can touch up again and again.

Rihanna’s Inspo: “Every red carpet you see me on, this has been in my clutch. I hate being greasy or getting caught oily in pictures – we all hate that – and this is the only cure.”

My Thoughts: I really like this powder, I didn’t at first if I’m honest but I think that was down to me not using it correctly and getting a little excited and smearing it all over my face. I don’t normally use any powder because it can end up making my face look and feel dry. I don’t often get oily bits in the day so I switched to just using it under my eye and in areas where I struggle to keep the foundation in place all day. Since doing this I’ve got to say I’m very impressed. I pop a little on straight after concealer and it really helps to set it and keep it there all day. I think this powder would definitely benefit someone who has oily or combination skin a little more than my skin, but it’s very light on certainly keeps any shine at bay. It comes with a little powder puff to dab it on with which is great for if I’m using it on the go, but for day to day use I just use a big powder brush and that seems to work much better and help it settle onto my skin without pushing into any of my fine lines.

Lasting Impressions:

After being able to play with these products for over a month now I can safely say there were some I loved and others… well not so much. Overall from what I’ve tried so far the Fenty brand has hugely impressed me and I’ve come away with some products that are now firmly placed in my beauty routine. Now I’ve got a feel for the base products I can’t wait to try something with a splash of colour, I’ve got my eyes on some of the amazing highlighters and eyeshadow palette. So watch this space as I’ll bet getting them ASAP!

Thank you so much for reading! Have you tried any of the Fenty products? Let me know what you think of them?
